Duet with my Grandmother, 2021- WIP, 4K Video, 12 minutes 24 seconds

This film centres on a home video from 1991 of my grandmother singing ‘The Rose of Aranmore’. I collaborated with a musician to write a harmony to the traditional Irish folk song, and travelled to Donegal in Ireland to sing my half of the duet in the ruins of the house she was born in. This journey became a sort of pilgrimage in an attempt to connect with my Grandmother who died from Alzheimer's when I was young. The film collages together new and old super 8 film alongside 4K footage and is loosely arranged into two halves. The first half is a portrait of the landscape of my ancestors, the second half is a timeless duet that brings together my grandmother's voice from 1991 and my own 30 years later.
