Copycat Triptych draws on three fragments from old films which all reference the double. Through painstaking repetition Smith shadows each of the characters movements for an hour. This becomes a sort of embodied drawing as a way to unpick, through mimicry and repetition, the gestural forms of femininity within our society and the roles we are encouraged to re-perform. The tracing of the actors’ gestures by the artist's body becomes strangely uncanny, and as Smith’s body tires they slip in and out of each-other's movements.
